ELEMENT’S Flatlight Construction
Bryce and Garric recently asked me to tryout and review the construction and board feel with one of Element’s new Flatlight decks. Flatlight is a premium 7 ply construction pressed in a softer concave mold with lower nose and tail angles and more flat behind the trucks which is supposed to aid in quicker responding ollies and nollies.
The board takes a little bit of getting used to especially with flat ground tricks
since its nose and tail are mellower than most boards. After skating the Flatlight board for a while I actually started to like it. I did notice that the longer flat area behind the trucks and the mellower nose and tail do give quicker pop without making the board any longer than a normal board as well. Higher
ollies/nollies are definitely easier with this board since you don’t need to pop as hard because of the quicker response time. It’s one of the better boards I have ridden in a while I must say.
So, is the quicker response time really that noticeable? Yes. Is the board really
worth the suggested retail price of $56.00? Well, not in my opinion. Maybe it
will be for you. Drop by your local skateshop and have a look for yourself.
